I attended UTPB in Odessa and received a Bachelor’s in arts ( Major in English and minor in history). I am originally from Andrews, Texas.  I was born and raised in a small town so Southland has been a great fit for me and my family. This is my first year here at Southland and I can’t imagine working with a better, more caring group of people.   I currently live in Lubbock and have two sons: 4 and 5 Gavin and Corey, my husband in Layne, and our stray from Southland, Copper. I don’t have a lot of hobbies, but I love to scrapbook and sew and I also love to golf with my husband and boys.

I am currently the Art and Special Education teacher and assistant coach for all girls' sports.  I attended Texas Tech University, where I received my B.B.A. in marketing and my Master's degree in Educational Psychology.  I am currently working on my Ph.D. from Texas Tech in Educational Psychology and have just a dissertation to finish!  This is my first year teaching at Southland, but I've taught for 4 years and really cherish  the relationships I developed with my students over those years.   I love the small-town feel and caring "family" here at Southland!  I attended a six-man school in high school, so Southland fits right in with my values and experiences.  I've been married to my husband, Matt, for almost 3 years.  We live in Lubbock, where I've been for 8 years (except for the one year I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada) and we have a beautiful daughter: a 3 year old Golden Labrador named Goldie!

I graduated from Angelo State University with a B.S. and am a Certified Academic Language Therapist.  I am married to J.W. Basinger, who is a rancher.  I have been at Southland for 24 years.  My hobbies and interests include baking, playing the piano, and taking care of animals (horses, dogs, cats, cows).

I attended Texas A&M for my Bachelor’s degree and the University of Florida for my Master’s degree.  I attended Texas Tech for my teacher certification.  I have lived in Idalou for 10 years.  We live out in the country and have a small vineyard.  I have 2 boys, ages 17 (Jr. at IHS) and 19 (Freshman at Tech)….one husband, Steve…married for 25 years, and two dogs, Princess and Patch.  I chose to work at Southland because it is a small, friendly atmosphere with lots of great students and staff.  I am a runner, used to do marathons until I started working, now I’m a “recreational” runner….~ 30 miles/wk.  My family and I love to go backpacking in the mountains in the summer, snow skiing in the winter.

I attended Texas Tech University and currently live in Lubbock with my wife, Amanda, and my two daughters, Ashtyn and Lauryn.  This is my second year as principal at Southland, and I really enjoy the small school atmosphere.  Southland has a great future ahead of it.  There are great people with passion working here and I truly enjoy coming to work everyday.  I enjoy golf and fishing (when I get a chance) and my passion is baseball.

I’ve taught here at Southland my whole teaching career, 19 years in kindergarten and 5 years in 3rd grade.  I’m married to Larry and he works for Texas Department of Criminal Justice.  I have one grown daughter, Jessica.  She lives in Dallas and works as an apartment manager.  She takes care of my wonderful grand-dog, Spencer.  When I’m at home, I love to play with my Yorkie, Charley and the two cats, Sadie and Bob.  Southland is a great place to work.  We have the finest students and staff in the world and I feel lucky to be a part of this school community.

I have a husband, Brad Lewis, for whom I have been happily married to for 22 years. I have two daughters, Kristin who is a freshman at Texas Tech University, and Kelcee who is an 8th grader at Southland ISD.  I enjoy shopping, scrap-booking, going to the movies and out to eat.  I think Southland has been one of the best things that has happened to my family.  My children have had the best education available, due to the smaller classroom size, which provides them ample one on one access with their teachers. The opportunities have been more than they could ever have accomplished in a larger district.

I graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in English and minor in theatre arts.  I am also certified in reading.  I grew up in Wellington, TX.  I taught in Dimmitt for 6 years and I've taught in Southland for 17 years.  I have three daughters:  Heather, Gretchen and Allison and 8 grandchildren.  I like the smallness of Southland.  I feel our students get a foundational education.  I love to read, work in my yard, fish, and I like antiques.  I like to travel to historical places.  I also enjoy good movies and music.

I have a BS and and ME from Texas Tech.  Before I married and moved to Southland,  I lived in five states and several towns in Texas, including Lubbock. This is my 43rd year at Southland ISD where I have been a teacher for grades K-8,  reading teacher, elementary principal, and librarian. I love working at Southland!  It is not just a place to work; it is my home away from home where the staff and students are like a family.  I am married to Valton and we have three sons and one daughter: Kendon, Curt, Cynthia, and Andy and 14 grandchildren.  I like to read, travel, quilt, listen to beautiful music, make scrapbooks, and collect shells, paperweights, and angel figurines.  I am supportive of Christian missions, serve on the missions committee in my church, and have a son who directs a children's home and school in Guatemala.  Another son is involved in missions to the Middle East.  I have traveled to the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Turkey, Samos (a Greek island), Mexico, and Gautemala as well as many places in the USA.

I am currently the Superintendent at Southland ISD.  I taught Agricultural Science at Tulia and at New Deal after receiving my Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Communications and my Master of Science in Agricultural Education.  I completed my Mid-management and Superintendent Certifications at West Texas A&M University and began my administrative career at Roosevelt ISD, where I was the Junior High Principal for one year and then High School Principal for four years before moving to Southland as Principal for Southland Schools.  After one year as Principal I was fortunate enough to be moved into the Superintendent position.  I have been married to my beautiful redhead, Bethany, for 16 years.  I LOVE Southland and the family feel that comes with it.  We have made great strides in the past few years and I see nothing but success and growth in our future.  GO EAGLES!!
