Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education.

Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns, including teen pregnancy, parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, environment, nutrition and fitness, teen violence and career exploration.  Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life -- planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making and interpersonal communication -- necessary in the home and workplace. (source http://www.texasfccla.org).

The Southland ISD chapter of FCCLA has been very active in providing regional and state officers in different levels of operation.  Kristin Lewis was the first student to be named a regional officer in 2004, and she was the first student be a state officer in 2006.  Currently, Patrick Martinez is the Regional Vice President of Recreation, and next year he will serve as the Regional  Vice President of Community Service.

FCCLA will be hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, April 22nd.  If you are over 18 and have a valid picture ID, you may be able to donate blood (other conditions apply).  If you have any question, contact Kari Lewis.
